Trezor is well-known for its robust security, while MetaMask is widely used for its convenience with decentralized apps (dApps). What if you could use both together? Good news—you can. In this blog, we’ll show you how to connect your Trezor hardware wallet to MetaMask for secure and flexible crypto management.
Step 1: Set Up Your Trezor Wallet
Before you begin, make sure your Trezor wallet is fully set up. Install the Trezor Suite, set your PIN, and store your recovery seed securely. Ensure your firmware is up to date to avoid compatibility issues.
Step 2: Install MetaMask Extension
If you haven’t already, download and install the MetaMask browser extension from the official website. Create a MetaMask wallet or log in if you already have one.
Important: If you’re only planning to use Trezor with MetaMask, you don’t need to import your MetaMask seed. You’ll be connecting Trezor directly, not merging wallets.
Step 3: Connect Trezor to MetaMask
Open MetaMask and click on the profile icon at the top-right.
Select “Connect Hardware Wallet.”
Choose Trezor from the list of supported devices.
MetaMask will launch a new tab that prompts you to connect your Trezor device via USB.
Follow the on-screen instructions and approve the connection on your Trezor device.
MetaMask will display a list of Trezor wallet addresses—select the one you want to use and click “Unlock.”
Now your Trezor wallet is connected to MetaMask!
Step 4: Use MetaMask with Trezor for dApps
Now that your Trezor is connected, you can use it to interact with Ethereum-based dApps, DeFi platforms, and NFT marketplaces through MetaMask. Every transaction must still be confirmed on your Trezor device, ensuring maximum security.
This is ideal for those who want the convenience of MetaMask and the cold-storage protection of Trezor.
Security Tip
Even while using MetaMask, your private keys are still safely stored inside your Trezor wallet and never exposed online. Always verify transaction details on your Trezor screen before approving.
